چکیده

This work investigates the effect of the explicit inclusion of queueing delays due to locking overhead in a performance study of a two phase locking concurrency control method. A mean value analysis is used to calculate the system's performance measures, response time and throughput. It is found that the locking overhead's contribution to delay depends largely on the degree of page faulting activity in the system and the degree of contention for the CPU. Even at low page faulting probabilities, it is shown that the 2PL locking overhead is not negligible and should therefore be incorporated as a parameter in two phase locking performance studies.

Evaluation of Phase Locking and Cross Correlation Methods for Estimating the Time Lag between Brain Sites: A Simulation Approach

Introduction: Direction and latency of electrical connectivity between different sites of brain explains brain neural functionality. We compared efficiency of cross correlation and phase locking methods in time lag estimation which are based on local field potential (LFP) and LFPspike signals, respectively. Methods: Signals recorded from MT area of a macaque’s brain was used in a simulation ...

Performance of Multiversion and Distributed Two-Phase Locking Concurrency Control Mechanisms in Distributed Databases

Abstract In this paper we have presented a detailed simulation study of a distributed multiversion and a distributed two-phase locking concurrency control mechanisms. Our experiment concentrated on measuring the effect of message overhead, read:write ratios, data partitioning and partial replication on the performance of these mechanisms. The effect of these parameters has not been investigated...

Capacity planning in the hospital queueing network with blocking: simulation-based optimization approach

Introduction: Hospital administrators have always faced the challenge of providing the best possible health services in a resource-limited environment. The patient flow throughout the hospital is affected by lack of the capacities that can lead to bed-blocking among the hospital units. In this research, the patient flow in the hospital is modeled as an open queueing network with blocking. Then,...

A client-server architecture for distributed measurement systems

This paper describes a client–server architecture for the remote control of instrumentation over the Internet network. The proposed solution allows multiuser, multi-instrument sessions by means of a queueing and instrument locking capability. Client applications can be easily developed by using conventional high-level programming languages or well-assessed virtual instrumentation frameworks. Pe...

An Integrated Approach for Measuring Performance of Network structure: Case study on power plants

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) and balanced scorecard (BSC) are two well-known approaches for measuring performance of decision making units (DMUs). BSC is especially applied with quality measures, whereas, when the quantity measures are used to evaluate, DEA is more appropriate. In the real-world, DMUs usually have complex structures such as network structures. One of the well-known network s...
